9th January – 6th February: 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Football) – Cameroon
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations is a men’s football competition for international teams organized by the African Football Association CAF. First held in 1957, the current holders are Algeria who beat Senegal 1-0 in 2019 final. African Cup of Nations is held every 2 years in odd-numbered years. This means there is no conflict with the FIFA World Cup. Usually held in January, starting in 2019, the event has been moved to June for the first time.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will occur in Cameroon for the first time since 1972; after the 2019 host was canceled due to delays in infrastructure delivery. There will be a total of 6 venues:

17th – 30th January: 2022 Australian Open (Tennis) – Melbourne
Another big sports event in 2022 is Australia Open. The 2022 Australian Open is a tennis event, the first of four Grand Slam events on the professional tennis calendar. Held on hard courts since 1988, it is one of the biggest sporting events in the southern hemisphere.
The tournament moved to its current home, Melbourne Park, in 1988. Melbourne Park is located within the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment District in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

4th – 20th February: 2022 Winter Olympics – Beijing (China)
We are just weeks away from the opening of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the second Olympics during the pandemic after last year’s Summer Games in Tokyo.
Beijing will become the first city to host the Summer and Winter Games since its 2008 Olympic debut.
Moreover, organizers intend to host Beijing 2022 in a closed-loop system that only Olympic participants can enter. The system will include venues, official hotels, as well as transport services for the event itself, as described in the Olympics handbook.
While the Chinese capital, Beijing, is the official host city for the Olympics, the venues are in three regions:
Beijing, Yanqing — a mountainous region 75 kilometers (46.6 miles) northwest of Beijing.Zhangjiakou, a ski and snowboard resort that travels beyond Yanqing 100 kilometers (about 62.1 miles). Among the 13 venues for the event there is a new one – the National Speed Skating Stadium. The Beijing National Stadium, or the Bird’s Nest, will host the opening and closing ceremonies.Each of these three areas has its own Olympic Village. There is a new intercity railway between them.
5th February – 19th March: 2022 Six Nations (Rugby Union) – England, France, Italy, Ireland, Wales & Scotland
Another big sporting event for 2022 is the Six Nations international rugby union competition.
The Six Nations is an annual international rugby league game between teams from England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and Wales.
Each team plays the other team once, and home-court advantage rotates annually. Wales are the 2021 champions, winning their 28th title and a treble (beating all other nations). The 2022 Six Nations will take place between 5 February and 19 March 2022.

6th February: Super Bowl LVI (NFL) – SoFi Stadium (Inglewood, California, USA)
One of the Biggest Sports Events for 2022 for sure will be The Super Bowl. It is the culmination of the NFL season, contested by the American Football Conference (AFC) and NFC championships. The National Football League (NFL) is the American professional football league.
The Super Bowl usually takes place on the first Sunday in February and is one of the largest events in the United States.
In addition, other events include the Super Bowl halftime show, which features some of the biggest watches in the music industry; and commercials on TV that are the most expensive broadcasts.

4th-13th March: 2022 Winter Paralympics – Beijing (China)
The 2022 Winter Paralympics, officially known as the 13th Winter Paralympic Games, commonly known as the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games, is an international winter Paralympic Games scheduled to be held in Beijing, People’s Republic of China from the 4th to the 13th March 2022.
4th March – 3rd April: 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup (Cricket) – New Zealand
The 2022 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup is coming to Aotroa and you can take part in all the world-class competitions!
This pinnacle of women’s cricket will feature 31 matches over 31 action-packed days between March 4 and April 3, 2022. The competition will have its opening game and opening ceremony at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui!
The first set of games will also see two massive rivalries take the centre stage; with Australia taking on England at Seddon Park in Hamilton on 5 March and India facing Pakistan in Tauranga the following day.
A total of 31 matches will take place in over 31 days, with eight teams vying for the coveted World Cup trophy. Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Wellington will be the six cities hosting the race. Then, Australia, England, South Africa, and India qualified based on their positions in the 2017-20 ICC Women’s Championship, while New Zealand automatically qualified because they were hosts.

22nd May – 5th June: 2022 French Open (Tennis) – Roland-Garros (Paris, France)
The 2022 French Open is a tennis tournament from 1891. This is the second of four Grand Slam events in the professional tennis calendar each year. Also known as the French Open, it is the only Grand Slam tournament on clay and it is the premier event on this venue.
The event will run from Sunday, May 22nd to Sunday, June 5th, 2022.

28th May: 2022 European Rugby Champions Cup Final (Rugby Union) – Stade Vélodrome (Marseille, France)
This 2022 European Rugby Champions Cup final will take place for the first time at the velodrome of Marseille. The stadium was due to host the 2020 final, but it was postponed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and then again to 2022 due to travel uncertainty.

Tennis Tournament Wimbledon 2022 is the oldest tennis tournament in the world and one of the four major championships in professional tennis, happening from 1877. Wimbledon takes place on grass courts and is known for traditions such as eating strawberries and drinking Pimms.
Switzerland’s Roger Federer won a record 8 men’s singles titles, and America’s Martina Navratilova won a record nine women’s singles titles.
The third Grand Slam on the professional tennis calendar happens annually for two weeks in late June and early July.
The 135th Championship will run from Monday 27 June to Sunday 10 July 2022.

1st-24th July: 2022 Tour de France (Cycling) – Denmark & France
The 109th edition of the Tour de France will visit Denmark for the first time, with the Grand Départ taking place in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Firstly, the 2021 edition was originally scheduled to start in Denmark but was delayed due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. There will be a total of 21 stages. 6th July – 31st July: UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 (Football) – England
UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 is an international women’s football competition. The current hosts are the Netherlands, who won their first homeland title after beating Denmark in the final 2017 game.
The European Championships usually take place every 4 years. However, due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and potential conflicts with other major events such as the Summer Olympics and Euro 2020, the 2022 edition has been postponed for a year and will now happen in July 2022 6th to 31st.
14th-17th July: The Open 2022 (Golf) – Old Course at St Andrews (St Andrews, Scotland)
The Open Championship, or the British Open, is the oldest of the four major annual championships in professional golf. First held in 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland, the event is hosted by the R&A, the world’s leading authority on golf (except North America). Harry Vardon from Jersey has a record of six Open titles, five of which James Braid, John Henry Taylor, Peter Thomson, and Tom Watson have all won.
The Open is an annual event and, as of 2019, is the final Grand Slam of the season. It traditionally takes place in mid-July. The 150th British Open will be held from July 14-17, 2022.
The 2022 Open will be played at the Old Course in St Andrews, which is often used and considered one of the pinnacles of winning golf there. This will be the 30th time the British Open has been played at St Andrews, the last being in 2015.

The 2022 U.S. Open is a tennis tournament first played in 1881 and the last of four major championships in the professional tennis calendar. The game is on hard courts and is the largest game in the Americas.
The 2022 edition will take place between Monday, August 29, and Sunday, September 11, 2022.

19th August – 11th September: 2022 Vuelta a España (Cycling) – Spain
The Tour de Espana 2022 (Tour of Spain) is the last of the three Grand Tour events in professional cycling (after the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France). It is an annual 3-week multi-stage race that is mainly held in Spain.
The 2021 red jersey was awarded to the General Clarification of the Spanish Ring, won by Slovenian Primož Roglič of Team Jumbo–Visma. He became the third rider to win the event for the third consecutive year.

24th Septermber: AFL Grand Final 2022 (AFL) – Melbourne Cricket Ground (Melbourne, Australia)
Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) or “The G” is one of the most famous stadiums in the world. Actually, it is the the10th largest stadium in the world and the largest in Australia. Originally built in 1853, the stadium has undergone several renovations to bring its current capacity to over 100,000. Thus making it the largest cricket stadium in the world. The MCG is home to the Victoria Cricket Team (playing the Sheffield Shield and One Day Cup) and the Melbourne Stars of the Big Bash League. Australia has played a number of international cricket matches at The G. With both the First Test (1877) and One Day International (1971) played here, both against England.

The 2021 Rugby League World Cup is an international competition for the National Men’s Rugby League teams, first held in 1954. Australia won the 2017 edition by beating England 6-0 in the final at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
The Rugby League World Cup is held every 4 years and the 16th edition of the Rugby League World Cup. It will now take place between Saturday 15 October 2022 and Saturday 19 November 2022.
Biggest Sports Events in November 2022
The FIFA World Cup is an international senior men’s football competition between the national teams of members of the world governing body FIFA, first held in 1930. France is the current champion, beating Croatia and Russia 4-2 in the 2018 tournament.
The FIFA World Cup is held every 4 years, usually in the summer. For the first time, the 22nd edition will not take place in May, June, or July, and will run from Monday, November 21 to Sunday, December 18, 2022.
TBA: 2022 ATP Finals (Tennis) – Pala Alpitour (Turin, Italy)
Pala Alpitour (known as PalaOlimpico from 2005 to 2014) is a multipurpose indoor venue. The venue opened in 2005, followed by ice hockey at the 2006 Winter Olympics, including the finals where Sweden and Canada won gold.
Since hosting the Olympics, Pala Alpitour usually hosts a variety of different sports, with venue capacities ranging from 12,350 to 16,600, depending on configuration.

TBA: 2022/2023 PDC World Darts Championship (Darts) – Alexandra Palace (London, England)
Alexandra Palace is an entertainment and sports venue that has hosted the annual PDC World Darts Championships since 2007 and the Snooker Masters since 2012.
The original venue opened in 1873 but burned down just 16 days later. Afterwards, the new venue opened two years later with a concert hall, theatre, circus, racetrack, and boating lake. Ally Palace is known to have a long history, including hosting the world’s first full television service in 1936 and experiencing another devastating fire in 1980.
